Helicopter Landings, Use of Drones/Remotely Piloted Vehicles at Norwich University

This policy governs the non-emergency use of helicopters on University property and the use of drones/remotely piloted vehicles above or on University property.
Helicopters may land on Norwich property with prior approval to support various military training missions, demonstrations, when transporting VIP visitors, and for medical emergencies.
Because of the associated safety and noise issues, the use of drones/remotely piloted vehicles above or on University property is prohibited unless proper approval is obtained (see below).
The department sponsoring the helicopter must request permission and, if approved, notify the Office of Communications and the Security Office of arrival/departure times.

1. Helicopter Landings
The Chief Administrative Officer shall assign the appropriate landing location.
Helicopter operations to/from University property must have prior approval from the Chief Administrative Officer or his/her designee.
The pilot must be briefed regarding the sensitive feelings by some in the community and cautioned to carefully follow Federal Aviation Regulations regarding helicopter operations. Arrivals and departures should avoid areas south of Norwich in the Roxbury area.
2. Drones/Remotely Piloted Vehicles
The use of drones/remotely piloted vehicles to/from/above University property must have prior approval from the Chief Administrative Officer or his/her designee.
